The Chinese Medicine method of diagnosis is based on a holistic approach to the patient.  Thus, a patient may complain of a specific symptom, for example, a headache; however, the practitioner, after asking questions related to all the major body systems will arrive at a diagnosis, or a 'pattern of disharmony'.  The treatment will be aimed at correcting this disharmony and bringing the patient back to balance.  Consequently, acupuncture is effective at relieving a wide variety of symptoms as well underlying causes relating to different diseases.
